Summer Festivals

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Amid a summer of festivals, east end pub raves and an international gig schedule, Late Night Audio’s Toby Tobias and Danny Clark bring back their original east end basement party to Dalston’s favourite video bar, Visions.

Late Night Audio is excited to be working with Electric Minds, one of the most truly innovative home grown labels of today. With its roots in Dalston, the label can boast releases from artists such as Yam Who ? Gatto Fritto, Stevie Kotey, Max Essa, Chaz Jankel and soon to be Toby Tobias.  The imprint, run by Dolan Bergin, has received wide spread acclaim for the quality of its releases and also its warehouse parties.

As very special guests for this party, label artists Stevie Kotey will be joined by partner in crime Loud E. Kotey’s CV is as diverse as it is impressive.  He is a member of Chicken Lips, Label Boss of Bear Funk Entertainment, an accomplished producer / remixer and still finds time to DJ at clubs in Japan, Australia, America and Europe.  Loud E is a disco obsessive from Holland who spends much of his time searching flea markets in Europe for undiscovered disco works of art. Loud E also has a cult following for his re-edits, which are finally seeing a release through Kotey’s new project The Ambassadors Reception.  We are flying in Loud E especially for this party and we have a U.K. appearance exclusive.

With its rough and ready basement feel, low ceilings and open bar plan, Dalston’s Visions Video Bar lends itself perfectly to the Late Night Audio and Electric Minds vibe. The launch and following parties will focus on delivering amazing sound, quality crowds and exclusive international guests.  A top of the range Funktion One sound system will be installed on the night.

With Toby Tobias making serious waves with his material on Radio Slave’s - Rekids Label and with his album “Space Shuffle” to be released this July, the 9th of August boasts an exceptional line up not to be missed. Road Block guaranteed!
Tickets are £7 and can be purchased by clicking the Ticketweb logo:

Electric Minds introduce their 5th release, Chaz Jankel’s Compass Point Sessions (Yam Who ? Reworks)
“The Compass Point Sessions” are named after the studios based in the Bahamas and home to some of Disco’s finest artists including Gwen Guthrie, Grace Jones, Talking Heads and of course the place where Chaz Jankel recorded “Without You” and “You’re Too Funky”. As co-writer of ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’, Chaz achieved a number 1 record in the late 70’s with Ian Dury & The Blockheads and it was after this that he went to the Bahamas to work on his solo material.
In 1983, at Compass Point, Chaz teamed up with engineer / producer Steven Stanley who at the time co-wrote Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love” as well as working with Grace Jones and Sly & Robbie.  The pair recorded “Without You” and whilst working on “You’re too Funky” brought in Tom Tom Club’s “Laura Weymouth” to lay down the vocals.
Yam Who? & Chaz Jankel have worked together on this project adding a seriously modern, edgy & twisted interpretation on these two classic tracks. With Chaz being able to supply the original tapes and outakes Yam Who ? has worked carefully to include all of the original parts within the two new recordings.
Chaz has long been considered a dance hero and his popularity continues to grow with recent appearances on Strut/K7 compilation as well as Tirk’s recent compilation of his material which includes the original of “Without You”. “You’re Too Funky” however, is unreleased and the Yam Who ? rework makes up the B-Side to this very special 12” release.
Not only confined to the world of dance music Chaz Jankel is currently in Los Angeles co-writing Robbie William’s latest album with 18 tracks completed so far.
